FAQ

Getting Started

How do I get started at Elite Custom Fitness?

Getting started at Elite Custom Fitness begins with a free consultation. During your visit, you'll meet our coaching team, tour the facility, discuss your goals, training history, and experience level, and learn which training option is the best fit for your needs. Whether you're completely new to strength training or looking to take your performance to the next level, we'll help you create a clear path forward.

What makes Elite Custom Fitness different from other gyms in Pittsburgh?

Elite Custom Fitness is more than a gym membership. We are a coaching-focused strength training facility that prioritizes expert guidance, structured programming, and long-term results. Unlike traditional gyms where members are left to figure things out on their own, our coaches actively monitor, adjust, and progress training based on your goals, performance, and individual needs. Combined with a supportive community and experienced coaching staff, our approach helps members build strength, improve health, and stay consistent for the long haul.

How much does coaching cost?

We offer several coaching membership options designed to provide different levels of support and training frequency. Because every individual's goals, experience level, and schedule are different, we recommend scheduling a free consultation to determine which option is the best fit for your needs.

Is there a long-term contract?

No. Elite Custom Fitness does not require long-term contracts. We believe members should stay because they're seeing results, enjoying the experience, and making meaningful progress - not because they're locked into an agreement.

Coaching & Training

What is personalized coaching?

Personalized coaching combines individualized training programs, expert instruction, and ongoing accountability. Every member receives a training plan designed around their goals, experience level, movement ability, and lifestyle. Our coaches continuously evaluate performance and make adjustments along the way to ensure training remains effective, safe, and aligned with long-term success.

What does a typical training session look like?

Each training session follows a structured plan designed around your goals and current ability level. Your coach will guide you through the workout, provide technique feedback, adjust exercises when necessary, and ensure you're progressing appropriately. Every session is purposeful, allowing you to build strength, improve movement quality, and gain confidence in the gym.

Can I choose which coach I work with?

Yes. We work to match members with coaches who best align with their goals, experience level, and personality. While our entire coaching team shares the same commitment to helping members succeed, each coach brings unique strengths and expertise that can support different training objectives.

I'm new to strength training. Is Elite Custom Fitness right for me?

Absolutely. Many of our members began with little or no previous experience in the gym. Our coaching team specializes in helping beginners learn proper technique, build confidence, and develop healthy training habits. We meet you where you are and create a supportive environment that makes strength training approachable and enjoyable.

I'm an experienced lifter. Is Elite Custom Fitness right for me?

Yes. Elite Custom Fitness works with everyone from first-time gym members to competitive powerlifters and athletes. Experienced lifters benefit from structured programming, expert coaching, technical feedback, and a training environment designed to support continued progress.

How often should I strength train each week?

The ideal training frequency depends on your goals, experience level, recovery ability, and schedule. For most individuals, training two to four times per week provides an excellent balance between progress and recovery. During your consultation, we'll help determine the training frequency that makes the most sense for your goals.

Do you offer nutrition coaching?

Yes. While we are not registered dietitians or licensed nutritionists, our coaches provide practical nutrition guidance and accountability to help members support their health, performance, and body composition goals. We can help you develop sustainable habits, better understand calorie intake and expenditure, track progress, and make nutrition choices that align with your goals. Our focus is on education, consistency, and long-term success rather than restrictive diets or quick fixes.

Results & Benefits

What are the benefits of strength training?

Strength training offers benefits that extend far beyond building muscle. It can improve strength, mobility, bone density, athletic performance, confidence, energy levels, and overall health. Regular strength training also helps support long-term independence and quality of life as we age.

Can strength training help me lose weight?

Yes. Strength training can be an effective tool for improving body composition and supporting long-term weight loss. By building lean muscle mass and increasing overall activity levels, strength training helps support a healthy metabolism while creating sustainable habits that contribute to long-term success.

Can strength training help me stay active as I get older?

Absolutely. Strength training is one of the most effective ways to maintain mobility, balance, muscle mass, and independence as we age. Many of our members use strength training not only to improve how they feel today, but to continue enjoying the activities they love for years to come.

Sports Performance

Do you offer sports performance training for athletes?

Can strength training help improve my golf performance?

Strength training can play a significant role in improving golf performance. Increased mobility, rotational power, stability, balance, and overall athleticism can contribute to improved swing efficiency and consistency. Through our relationship with Elite Golf Performance, we also help golfers develop physical qualities that directly support success on the course.

Do you coach powerlifting?

Yes. Elite Custom Fitness has extensive experience coaching both recreational and competitive powerlifters. Whether your goal is to improve your squat, bench press, and deadlift or prepare for competition, our coaches can help you develop strength through proven programming and technical instruction.

Injury Recovery & Movement

Can I train if I have a previous injury or physical limitations?

In many cases, yes. Our coaches regularly work with individuals who have previous injuries, movement restrictions, or physical limitations. Training programs can be modified to accommodate your specific needs while still helping you make meaningful progress toward your goals.

How does Pittsburgh Osteopractic support Elite Custom Fitness members?

Elite Custom Fitness is proud to share its facility with Pittsburgh Osteopractic, led by Scott Szelong, who also serves as a member of our coaching staff. This unique relationship provides members with convenient access to expertise in movement restoration, rehabilitation, and recovery-focused care when additional support is needed. Together, our coaching team and Pittsburgh Osteopractic help create a more complete approach to long-term health, performance, and movement quality.

Group Training

What are Group Strength Training Classes?

Group Strength Training Classes are coach-led training sessions designed to provide structure, accountability, and community while focusing on proper technique and progressive strength development. Unlike traditional fitness classes, these sessions follow a purposeful training plan aimed at helping participants build strength and continue making progress over time.

Are Group Strength Training Classes right for beginners?

While every situation is unique, most Group Strength Training Classes are best suited for individuals who have some previous training experience. New members are often encouraged to begin with personalized coaching to build a strong foundation before transitioning into a group training environment.

Foundation is ideal for individuals looking to establish consistency, Performance provides increased coaching and accountability, and Elite offers the highest level of support for those seeking maximum guidance and training frequency. During your consultation, we'll help determine which option best aligns with your goals.

Can I change membership levels later?
